Ich kann dieses Vorwort nicht schliessen, ohne ein Wort der Trauer hinzuzufügen über den plötzlichen und frühen Tod des Stifters der "romanes-vorträge. Nachdem George John Romanes noch am 2. Mai diesem Vor trag personlich beigewohnt hatte, starb er ganz plötzlich am 23. Mai, 46 Jahre alt. Nach dem bedenklichen Zustand seiner Gesundheit in den letzten Jahren musste man aller dings fürchten, dass ihm ein langes Leben nicht beschieden sein würde, doch hat wohl Niemand sein Ende so nahe geglaubt.
