Excerpt from Sargent Genealogy: Hugh Sargent, of Courteenhall, Northamptonshire, and His Descendants in England

The Genealogy of the Sargent Family, descendants of William, of Malden, Mass, was published in 1858. Prior to its publication every effort was made by direct search that ingenuity could suggest to learn whence came the progenitor of the family, but without avail. To learn the location of our ancestors in England, and to ascertain their social position, was much to be desired. Twenty Seven years later, however, it was discovered that our forefather came from Northampton, in England.
