What does it mean to be a younger brother with one older brother and no other siblings? What is like going through live with only one sibling and having that sibling be there before you? To the older sibling you are the interloper and to you, the feelings are complicated. This qualitative research interviewed eight younger brothers who had no other sibling beside their older brother. The five experiences expressed by the younger brother included: a search for his own identity, being older brothers protege, a relationship that is developmental, feeling competitive and feeling responsible. While not every brother experienced each feeling, they all had a unique story to tell.
