The study examines the usage of facebook as social networking tool in libraries. The major areas which study covers regarding facebook are the reasons for its usage or usage refusal, its usage length and perceived benefits of its usage. Modern academic libraries provide the information needs of a more demanding and savvy new generation user group that prefers to reside in an open, self generated online environment largely supported by Web 2.0 technologies. To reach the users where they are, the libraries should revamp their service strategies by incorporating tools like Facebook. Facebook is a social interactive tool for library professionals who can be reshaped as an information and publicity tool, as a feedback instrument, as an interactive and collaborative learning medium and as a facility for library promotion.Simple random sampling technique has been used for selection of the sample and instrument used to conduct a survey was questionnaire filled by 100 students.

Wasim ul Haq Sudhan (MLIS & M.Sc.) is an author who lives in Kahuta, Pakistan, with his wife Afia, and two sons Khubaib A. Khan & Uzair M. Khan. He served in the International Islamic University, Islamabad & Pakistan Academy of Sciences. He assisted the various steering committees constituted at the PAS for organizing national & intl. conferences.
