The increasingly complex demands placed on automotive assembly line workers often result in stress, anxiety and depression. There is an immense need to provide these workers with strategies that will help them manage psychosocial hazards in an effective and cohesive manner. Past research has shown relaxation therapy in a magnitude of occupational settings to be thunderous in tackling psychosocial hazards. However very limited studies have been focused in the automotive industry despite the industry dictating disproportionately high levels of stress, anxiety and depression. With the current lack of awareness and research in the area of work-related stress and long term psychosocial risks like anxiety and depression, it seems likely that an individual-focused, combined relaxation therapy could be a powerful tool as part of coping strategy in a Worksite Health Promotion Program in the workplace.
