The main goal of politicians is to persuade people, or if you want, to manipulate them. This book analyses examples of political texts using methods of critical discourse analysis. It describes, explains and comments on all manipulative and power-hiding practices that occur in contemporary political texts (namely published speeches) in the USA. It focuses on problems of dominance, ethics, populism, quibbling, etc.

About the author

Milan ¿ípek (*1983) is a Czech linguist who focuses on manipulative aspects of language. After exploring the persuasive methods used in print advertising, he moved on to examine public speeches of presidential candidates in the USA.
