The treason of Benedict Arnold, the capture of Major André, and the intelligence received by General Washington through his confidential agents in New-York, that many of his officers, and especially a major-general, were connected with Arnold, engrossed his mind entirely, and excited the most unpleasant reflections. The moment he reached the army, then under the command of Major-General Greene, encamped in the vicinity of Tappan, he sent for Major Henry Lee, posted with the light troops some distance in front.
