Excerpt from History of the Christian Church, Vol. 4
The progress of this book has been slow, and on completing the present volume, I find myself at an age which forbids me to enter on a subject so large and so difficult as the history of the Reformation.
I must therefore now take my leave of the reader, with hearty thankfulness that I have been allowed to carry on my work so far, and that it has been found useful as an introduction to the knowledge of ecclesiastical history.
