Excerpt from Speeches of John Bright, M. P: On the American Question
Mr. Bright was a Radical and Free Trade Reformer, attached to no political party, but willing to support either, provided their prin ciples and measures were founded upon the wants Of the country and the rights Of the people. The leading object of his political life, however, was the repeal of the Corn Laws. He continued to represent Durham until after the attainment Of this Object, and the consequent establishment of the Free Trade policy of the British empire.
