It is increasingly common to see custom instructions appear in various fields of circuit design. Custom instructions that can be implemented in special hardware units make it possible to reduce code size, improve performance and reduce area. In this book, we propose a custom instruction based high-level synthesis design flow. The key issues involved in the design flow are: automatic enumeration and selection of custom instructions from a given high-level application code and re-generation of the source code incorporating the selected custom instructions.

About the author










Chenglong Xiao received the M.S. degree in Enterprise Computing & Engineering from the University of Bordeaux1, France, in 2009. He obtained the Ph.D. degree in informatics from the University of Rennes1, France, in 2012. He is currently an associate professor in the school of software at the Liaoning Technical University.
