Morals. The generally accepted moral standards of the com munity will have a powerful in¿uence upon the court in its quest for the proper rule; but they will not necessarily be controlling. Law and morals, or law and ethics are not synonymous terms. It is true that a few ancient cases can be found in which judges have said that the law is what is right, or that the principles of Christianity are part of the common law, but expediency and policy frequently de mand rulings quite irreconcilable with common conceptions of morality.
