The twelfth ¿oor was very pleasant, after one got up there. It was light and cool and airy, free of dust and insects; and She came to enjoy it, but she had never learned to look out without a quick Sinking of the heart. Now, much as she would like to see the band that was playing away so cheerily far down there in the street, She found herself quivering with apprehension.
So, taking a firm grip on the baby, who was crying for a peek at the Show, she held him out on the ledge of the window, while She half closed her eyes and tried to forget that she was up in the air twice as high as the top of the water tower in her native town.
