Excerpt from Forays Among Salmon and Deer

The following pages have been compiled from letters and notes written among the scenes which they attempt to portray. It should however be here stated, that the present connected series of letters was not in contemplation at the time when the first was written. But after six had appeared in the columns of that excellent publication The Field' newspaper, and more were still in hand, it was thought advisable to publish them all together in a small volume. Thus it is the Author has been led on to present them to the Public, in the hope that they might be found in some degree interesting to all lovers of the Rod or the Ri¿e.
