The Bulgarian Elites of Transition. Patriots or Predators?

Essay from the year 2013 in the subject Politics - Miscellaneous, grade: A, University of Sheffield, language: English, comment: Literature mainly used via my research from the Bulgarian press , abstract: The question regarding the Bulgarian elites of the transition is a controversial and at the same times an enigmatic one. Some scholars say that this was the logical consequence of the 50 years under communist rule; others claim that the current situation is a direct result of the 24 years under predators rule. However, different viewpoints are always welcomed and appreciated.
Moreover, the current situation in the Eastern European countries is quite different from their Western counterparts; what the reasons behind all these are is what I have tried to investigate in my essay. I hope I have succeeded in my attempts to portray the nature of the Bulgarian elites of transition.
