This book discusses all aspects of sheep keeping in detail. Keeping sheep in Germany is discussed from a historic and present-day perspective, and for the first time there is a discussion of the different ways that sheep stocks were managed in eastern and western Germany in the years 1950–90. The origin, breeding, reproduction, feeding and keeping of sheep, taking into account our current state of knowledge, are dealt with just as thoroughly as the production and marketing of lamb meat and wool. Additionally, the book discusses improved opportunities for landscape husbandry using sheep. Finally, the economic aspects of the different keeping forms are given, as well as information on the detection and treatment of the most important sheep diseases.
