Jane Bowring was working as an editor on adult books when she was asked by a colleague to look at some children's picture book manuscripts. From that developed a desire to write for children herself. Her own children and those of her friends provided a rich source of inspiration, and stories such as Sam's Surprise, You little monster and Two in a room resulted. Along the way she discovered that many children prefer non-fiction to fiction. Researching material for her non-fiction titles led to a fascination with wild animals, some of which have made an appearance in her latest stories - The tricky little hippo is her latest picture book and one about baby elephants is in production.
