Clinical governance is a quality system used in the National Health Service to ensure patients receive high quality care. This study evaluates the implementation of clinical governance in mental health trusts. It has two cycles: the first (2002) focuses on clinical governance structures and strategy; the second, in response to the findings of the first, focuses on how managers enable front-line staff.

About the author










Adrian is Head of the Royal College of Psychiatrists¿ Centre for Quality Improvement and has led the development of its quality networks and accreditation programmes. He has conducted research in this area and has co-edited a book on clinical governance. Adrian is past president of the Royal Society of Medicine¿s Quality in Healthcare Section.
