Africa`s contribution to the global pool of greenhouse gases is definitely on the rise even as countries undergo development. The book shows how emission trading can help African countries contribute to the global goal of stabilizing the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. This is done through a review of the theoretical underpinning of emissions trading as an environmental policy instrument and existing emission trading schemes such as the New Zealand ETS,the EU ETS, the Acid Rain Program and the Chilean tradeable permit program. The book concludes that adopting emissions trading scheme as a policy instrument can cover the gaps in Africa`s emerging climate change mitigation policy architecture.
