The main concern with jumps on rough beds is that due to the high upstream flow velocity, the place where the jump occurs must have resistance to scouring and cavitation; otherwise, the stilling basin may be destroyed. The bed surface of the stilling basin must be smooth, or the crests of the corrugations should be at the level of the upstream bed that carries the supercritical flow; this prevents cavitation in the basin. If jumps were formed on corrugated beds, significant reductions occur in the tailwater depth and length of the jumps. The Reynolds shear stresses are produced in the plane of the crests of the corrugations that reduce the velocity field above the corrugations.
