Integrating the tensions between 'locality-wider society' and 'structure-consciousness' within an operational framework, this book explores the complex relations within urban structured coherences, including the labor and housing markets, and their effects upon class and consciousness formation processes, like the strategies between mobility-fixity adopted by capital and labor. The interpenetration of these fields of tension through spatial dynamics, i.e. local dependency, spatial fixity and mobility, is crucial in shaping backbone for concrete struggles fought by working class. It is often assumed that formation of class consciousness is hindered by other loci of consciousness such as the community based one. This book shows that community-based consciousness is itself largely absent in the communities at hand and when community-base is deployed it is often within a strategy to get personal benefits. Thus, lack of community-based consciousness does not device more effective strategies for formation of class-based consciousness but perhaps another adverse factor in developing it in an environment dominated by individualized form of consciousness.
