Phenotypic trait analysis of advanced lines in rice - Assessment of physical grain quality

Rice is an important staple food, feeding more than half of the world population. Pakistan is an important rice producing country and is famous all over the world for exporting high quality aromatic basmati rice. However rice yield is stagnant in Pakistan for the previous few decades. To overcome this yield stagnation certain elite advanced lines of rice were developed by Hazara University through modifying the present plant architecture of JP-5 and Basmati 385 . These lines are high yielding and possess better grain quality. Therefore the present study was designed to properly characterize these advanced lines on the basis of Physical grain quality and Phenotypic traits.

Syyed Gauhar Jamal belongs to District Upper Dir, Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa Pakistan. He did his M.Sc and M. Phil in Genetics from Hazara University Mansehra Pakistan. Currently he is PhD scholar at Department of Genetics Hazara University and working on molecular genetics of rice.
