Teaching Music to Reinforce Academic Skills in Grades 6-12 emerged from a research study that investigated the pedagogical (instructional) strategies while examining their preservice training at the university levels for the music educators in the State of Texas. The participants were randomly selected from the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Choral Directors Association, and Texas Orchestra Directors Association. The purpose of this research study and book are to highlight pedagogical methods as the essential components of teacher quality and effectiveness in increasing student achievement while meeting the learning needs of their students, as well as highlighting the needs to reform the preservice teacher education programs regarding implementing and addressing challenges of 21st century competencies. With this in mind, this study has attempted to investigate the instructional practices of some music educators in the State of Texas while examining the pedagogical approaches of integrated instruction between music and the academic disciplines.
