The CARICOM Single Market and Economy established a single economic space in the Caribbean region within which business and labour operate, in order to stimulate greater productive efficiency, bold investments, increased employment, intra-regional trade and exports. The drive for regional integration has been fraught with challenges; further compounded by the failure to take into consideration the unique and varied needs of the Caribbean postal sector. The sector is faced with declining mail volumes, technological upheavals, mounting competition and a widening digital gap; environmental forces that pose a real threat to public postal operators in the region. There is an urgent need to improve the quality and efficiency of postal services in the Caribbean, as failure to do so will inevitably result in postal services becoming increasingly irrelevant. In this context, the Caribbean postal sector is examined in an attempt to synchronize efforts to reinforce the sector within the development framework of the CSME. The proposed strategies will forge beneficial relationships among postal sector stakeholders in the Caribbean; resulting in sustainable benefits to all Caribbean countries.
