With an area of 20.27 acre the Recreation Garden & Zoo, Rangpur is playing an important role in amusement and recreation of local and remote people. The Zoo has at present, 193 individual animals of 28 species those include Mammal, Aves and Reptilians. The foods supplied to the animals consist 13 items among which Fish is the most prominent. Captive breeding is hampered due to occupying single sexed animals in most cages. The manpower is insufficient and there is lack of specialists and veterinary surgeon for the proper care of animals. Violating the conditions of being a modern zoo it is operating as a traditional menagerie. Providing lesser research facilities it is mainly acting as a recreational spot to the visitors.
