About the author

Heinrich August Winkler, geboren 1938 in Königsberg, studierte Geschichte, Philosophie und öffentliches Recht in Tübingen, Münster und Heidelberg. Er habilitierte sich 1970 in Berlin an der Freien Universität und war zunächst dort, danach von 1972 bis 1991 Professor in Freiburg. Seit 1991 war er bis zu seiner Emeritierung Professor für Neueste Geschichte an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
