Gestational pemphigoid or pemphigoid gestationis (PG) is a dermatosis of pregnancy. It is an autoimmune skin disease that occurs during pregnancy, generally in the second or third trimester, and/or immediately following pregnancy. The disease was originally called herpes gestationis because of its blistering appearance, although it is not linked to the herpes virus. PG appears as an itchy rash that develops into blisters. This is thought to be caused by some of the placenta tissue entering the mother's blood stream causing her immune system to become activated and cross react with her skin...
