The Greek black market which includes tax evasion and political corruption has been estimated at 65 trillion euros in 2009 by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Tax evasion alone amounted for about 20 billion euros each year. Greece shadow economy was about 25% of its GDP and was a record in Europe. It was nearly twice as big as the German black market which was estimated at 15% of its GDP. Experts recommended the Greek government to rapidly increase its revenues by implementing a more effective tax collecting system and by fighting corruption.
