In his days as a young seaman Stuart MacDonald dreamt of sailing away on his own, but a career at sea and later in business got in the way. Finally at the age of sixty four he quit work and set off from Scotland.

With no fixed idea of how long he would be away, or how far he would get, he reaches the Caribbean and decides to head through the Panama Canal into the Pacific and on to New Zealand. After two years of carefree cruising in the Pacific, the trip gets tougher and in Australia he almost gives up.

The book follows Stuart to the end of his four year adventure and is full of colourful descriptions of the places he visits, the characters he meets and the long ocean voyages. There are good times, tough times, romance, humour, and some sadness. It's a very real experience, whether you are a sailor, a dreamer or both.
