Platonov

Écrite avec la noirceur de la jeunesse - Tchékhov a entre vingt et vingt-deux ans -, cette pièce annonce déjà tous les thèmes de son oeuvre théâtrale : personnages à la dérive, solitaires qui passent de l'exaltation à la culpabilité, domaine perdu, le monde vu comme une grande scène de sottise et de folie. Platonov est plus intelligent que ceux qui l'entourent, présentés comme une bande d'ivrognes cupides. Ce qui le perd, c'est qu'il est un incorrigible coureur de jupons. Mais faible, et même lâche. Pièce perdue, retrouvée en 1920, elle ne fut créée qu'en 1956, au T.N.P., par Jean Vilar, sous le titre de « Ce fou de Platonov ».
