Various news have followed the survival of this tortoise which used to be the only symbol left of the Galapagos Islands. The tortoise had died of natural causes on June 2012, at the age of 100, leaving scientists hopeless since it was the last of its kind. Scientific researchers have revealed that they failed to get Lonesome George to breed with females of similar species. Only recently, scientific researchers have announced that they have discovered 17 tortoises which carry the genetic traces of George. For the field of science and research, this discovery means enormously since this would mean that the species of giant tortoises from the Galapagos Islands could be brought back from extinction. Analysts and experts have underlined that if the 17 tortoises crossbreed, the outcome would be purebred new tortoises. However, scientific researchers have precised that this experiment could take between 100 and 150 years for obtaining 100% pure species...
