It moved at a speed of 15 to 18 kilometres per second and passed over the southern Ural region before exploding over Chelyabinsk Oblast. The object's air burst occurred at approximately 15 to 25 kilometres above the ground and the total energy it released was equivalent to nearly 500 kilotons of TNT, that is, it was about 30 times more powerful than the atomic bomb of Hiroshima.
