About the author

Beryl Matthews was born in London but now lives in a small village in Hampshire. As a young girl her ambition was to become a professional singer, but the need to earn a wage drove her into an office. After retiring she joined a Writers' Circle in hopes of fulfilling her dream of becoming a published author. She has since written over twenty novels.

Summary

London 1920. Dora's father had been killed in the War and their mother, Harriet, works at night at a factory. One morning, when their mother doesn't arrive home as usual, Dora enquires at her work. When she learns that the factory doesn't have a night shift, Dora realizes there are secrets in her family and must discover the truth.
