About the author
Dr. theol. Gunther Wenz ist Professor für Systematische Theologie an der Evangelisch-Theologischen Fakultät der Universität München und Direktor des Instituts für Fundamentaltheologie.
Paul Tillich, geb. 1886 in Starzeddel im Kreis Guben, war evangelischer Theologe und Philosoph. Er lehrte von 1919-33 an verschiedenen deutschen Universitäten. Wegen seiner führenden Rolle beim 'Bund religiöser Sozialisten' wurde er 1933 suspendiert und emigrierte in die USA, wo er 1940 die amerikanische Staatsbürgerschaft annahm. Nachdem er zunächst am Union Theological Seminary in New York unterrichtet hatte, wechselte er 1955 an die Harvard University und war seit 1962 Professor an der Universität Chicago. Ebenfalls 1962 erhielt er den Friedenspreis des Deutschen Buchhandels. Er starb 1965 in Chicago.
