About the author

Dick King-Smith sagt von sich, er sei ein Naturmensch, er könne Großstädte nicht leiden und lebe deswegen auf dem Lande. 1922 wurde er in Bristol in England geboren. Er war lange Zeit Farmer, hatte aber auch noch andere Berufe - z.B. Feuerwehruniform-Vertreter -, bevor er an einer Pädagogischen Hochschule zu studieren begann und anschließend Lehrer an einer Dorfschule wurde. 1982 gab er auch diesen Beruf auf und ist seitdem nur noch Schriftsteller, und zwar einer der beliebtesten und erfolgreichsten Kinderbuchautoren Großbritanniens und wurde 1992 zum Kinderbuchautor des Jahres gewählt.
