Izhar Ahmed Khan was born in Nankana Sahib District, Punjab, Pakistan in 1965. He completed his Bachelor degree at the Univ. of Punjab, Lahore, and received his Master degree at the Univ. of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan, Fac. of Agriculture Economics and Rural Sociology, in 1993. He then joined the Punjab Economic Research Institute (Lahore) as a Research Associate, and later the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council as a Scientific Officer. Here he conducted research work in to socio-economic issues of agriculture and rural development in Pakistan, publishing various research papers in peer reviewed journals. In 2003 he joined the Univ. of Kassel, Germany, for his Ph.D. studies and concentrated on the research area of international labour migration, focusing on the socio-economic problems of migrants' families left behind in Pakistan, a topic which is highly relevant in the context of Pakistan's economic and social development. Since returning to Pakistan in 2008, he has been engaged in research and teaching at the Govt. College University Faisalabad, Pakistan.
