Description

Everybody's Autonomy is about reading and identity. Experimental texts empower the reader by encouraging self-governing approaches to reading and by placing the reader on equal footing with the author.

About the author

Juliana Spahr is assistant professor at the University of Hawaii, Manoa. She edits the journal Chain with Jena Osman.

Summary

While reader-centred texts have been criticized as undemocratic and exclusionary, the author instead argues that they empower readers, granting them equal authority with the author. She shows that reading these texts is a communal activity, anti-hierarchical and resolutely democratic.
