Eleanor Catton (1985) is opgegroeid in Nieuw-Zeeland. Ze was 22 toen ze haar debuutroman De repetitie schreef. Het boek viel direct in de prijzen en werd genomineerd voor de Orange Prize. Met haar tweede boek Al wat schittert won Eleanor Catton de Man Booker Prize. Daarmee was ze de jongste laureaat van deze prestigieuze prijs ooit.
