Jeffrey D. Sachs, geb. 1954 in Detroit, ist einer der einflussreichsten Entwicklungsökonomen der Welt. Er leitet das Earth Institute der Columbia Universität in New York und ist der breiten Öffentlichkeit als Direktor des UN Millenium Projekts zur globalen Armutsbekämpfung bekannt.
