Even as a young man, Hamid Farsi is acclaimed as a master of the art of calligraphy. But as time goes by, he sees that weaknesses in the Arabic language and its script limit its uses in the modern world. In a secret society, he works out schemes for radical reform, never guessing what risks he is running. His beautiful wife, Noura, is ignorant of the great plans on her husband s mind. About the author
Rafik Schami, geboren 1946 in Damaskus, kam 1971 nach Deutschland, studierte Chemie und legte 1979 seine Promotion ab. Heute lebt er in München. Er ist Mitbegründer der Literaturgruppe 'Südwind' und zählt zu den erfolgreichsten Schriftstellern deutscher Sprache. Sein Werk wurde unter anderem mit dem Adelbert-von-Chamisso-Preis, dem Hermann-Hesse-Preis, dem Prix de Lecture und mit dem Hans-Erich-Nossack-Preis ausgezeichnet. 2007 erhielt Rafik Schami den "Nelly-Sachs-Preis" der Stadt Dortmund, 2011 wurde er mit dem Menschenrechtspreis "Gegen Vergessen - Für Demokratie" ausgezeichnet und 2015 mit dem "Großen Preis der Deutschen Akademie für Kinder- und Jugendliteratur".
