About the author

Friedemann Sallis is a professor in the Department of Music at the University of Calgary. His publications include A Handbook to Twentieth-Century Musical Sketches (co-edited with Patricia Hall, 2004), Centre and Periphery, Roots and Exile: Interpreting the Music of István Anhalt, György Kurtág and Sándor Veress (co-edited with Robin Elliott and Kenneth DeLong, 2011), and numerous articles on twentieth-century music. He has acquired broad experience within the field of sketch studies, particularly with twentieth-century composers and performers, including György Kurtág, György Ligeti, Luigi Nono and Glenn Gould.
