North Eastern Region of India is one of an economically backward region of India. Agriculture can of course sustain the people of north east but cannot generate appreciable surplus. This has compelled the rural population to take up some off firm activities based on their traditional skills and surrounding available resources for livelihood. The role of industry clusters in rural economies is receiving renewed attention in worldwide. The industrial clusters strengthen the local economy by facilitating income and employment, act as an instrument for poverty alleviation, proper utilization of local resources, etc. Present study highlights how the cluster initiative is helping the regional economy by generating income and employment opportunities particularly in the North Eastern Region.
