In this book ligands TrenSal, H6TrenSal and TEtSal were design which demonstrate that they are capable of encapsulating a metal ion (in a cage) and to close the pocket of the cage by complexing another metal at the periphery of that cage. These ligands were easily prepared and were employed in the synthesis of number of successful combinations such as [(TrenSal)2M3], [(TEtSalNi)2Pb] and [{(H6TrenSal)Zn]}ZnCl]. Several compounds were prepared using copper, nickel, zinc and cerium among other metals. The aim is to produce redoxactive metal complexes that could be used as a catalyst.
