Radiation pattern of transducers may vary depending on both size and shape.Generally, cylindrical and spherical transducers are used for the applications where omnidirectional beam pattern in at least one plane is required. Instead of using cylindrical or spherical transducers, this book propose a new method and investigates two major subjects; design of a broadband high power back-to-back piston transducer and optimization of the transducer dimensions to obtain omnidirectional beam pattern in the desired frequency band. Transducer dimensions are tried to be optimized to achieve both high bandwidth and high beamwidth as radiation characteristics and operating band both depend on the transducer dimensions. It is shown that, when two back-to-back piston transducers are placed at right angles spatially and driven in parallel, one can obtain nearly an omnidirectional beam pattern in the frequency band.
