At the beginning 21st and at the end of 20th century, motorization is a symbol of modern Urban culture and economic wellbeing, meaning that the cities of the world have huge concentration of motorized transportation everywhere. However, in most developing countries motorized transportation has been increasing due to economic development, urbanism rate, and dynamism by itself, and others factors. One of the findings of the study is clearly depicts that (100%) of the informants absolutely agreed on the increase of motorization in the study areas. Out of the surveyed respondents (73.4%) respond that it has a positive effect on the society of the towns in particular and country at large by creating job opportunity, economic growth and improving social welfare in common. Whereas, it may bring negative effect on environment and health i.e. climatic change and air pollution comprise 19.7%, due to blowing the dust materials on the air, carbon emission, Particle Matter, Carbon monoxide, etc. From this and other problems the environment has been polluted, consequences it bring global warming, GHG effects, acid rain, and others.

About the author










F. Kassa was born in Ethiopia on 4.09.1975. He holds Bachelor degree in Geography and Master degree in Geography and Environmental Studies particularly in Regional and Urban Planning (RUP). Now Fekadu is a student in UNISA for PhD in Transport Geography and a lecturer at Arbamnich University in Department of Geography and Environmental Studies.
