This book is describing a detailed genetic analysis conducted on a group of families with genetic hearing loss in southern Egypt. Genetic hearing loss is of great impact in this community due to high rates of consanguineous marriage. This work have several aims, among which, identifing genes responsible for hereditary hearing loss in Southern Egypt and their frequencies in comparison with other countries and other ethnic groups and improving knowledge of hearing process in the inner ear. We hope that this book will be a good reference for researchers in the field of genetic hearing loss, to help in more discoveries and in finding new treatments of such important medical, psychological and social problem.

About the author










Dr Mostafa R Mohamed is a Lecturer of Audiology, Faculty of Medicine, Assiut University, Egypt. Dr Mohamed research is focusing on genetic and epigentic hearing loss in Southern Egypt. He is a member of an international hearing research collaboration started in 1994 which lead to a clinical and genetic network in 14 different countries.
