One of the most important global issues being addressed currently is the storage and release of energy. Hydrogen, due to its light weight, high abundance and safe reaction byproduct is the ideal way to store energy. However, hydrogen s nature as a gas makes it difficult to store efficiently. Metal organic frameworks have been shown to be nearly ten times as efficient in storing a gas compared to a chamber devoid of their presence. Self-assembled ruthenium squares, cubes, and triangles may have the same storage efficiencies. However, the self-assembled structures offer the advantage of control whereby the gas stored may be captured or released when the structure is oxidized or reduced. This book details the synthesis and analysis of ruthenium(II) thioether corners and self-assembled structures.
