Day was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia and raised in the small Cape Breton town of Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia. He got his first part-time job at age 14 as a radio DJ for the local radio station, CIGO-FM in Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia. He studied theater at Acadia University before making his feature film debut as a young fisherman in the 2000 film Deeply starring Kirsten Dunst. His other film roles have included Songs in Ordinary Time, A Glimpse of Hell, Julie Walking Home starring Miranda Otto and A Hole in One.
