About the author
Flavius Josephus (37/38 n.Chr. bis vermutlich nach 100 n. Chr.) war während des jüdischen Krieges gegen Rom Militärkommandeur in Galiläa. Bei der römischen Eroberung des Gebiets wechselte er die Seiten und wurde Berater der Römer im Kampf gegen die jüdischen Aufständischen und bei der Einnahme Jerusalems. Später erhielt er das römische Bürgerrecht und eine stattliche Pension zuerkannt, dank derer er sich ausschließlich seiner schriftstellerischen Arbeit widmen konnte.
