This book is motivated by my professional work experience and educational training background. While working for the University of Zambia, I observed a number of challenges that the institution faced with regard to the management of knowledge (explicit and tacit) supporting operations. In order to tackle these challenges, a study was conducted to see how best knowledge retention challenges could be tackled. The research culminated into a wealth of practices and techniques on knowledge retention that organisations can adopt and apply to mitigate the loss of relevant operational knowledge. At a glance therefore, this book has addressed issues on the value of knowledge, approaches to knowledge management and efforts that have been made by organisations in addressing knowledge-based operational challenges. The book has also addressed in detail issues surrounding knowledge retention such as the drivers for the knowledge retention in organisations and the components of knowledge retention identified as knowledge assessment, knowledge acquisition and knowledge transfer.
