This monograph describes research done on different types of microfinance institutions (MFI's) using qualitative interviews. Existing literature defines different types of MFI's depending on their developmental or more commercial vision. Those different types of MFIs have different motives and use different strategies in terms of for example (not) offering additional services to support their clients. In this thesis, insights, reasons and underlying thoughts for those different motives and strategies have been researched derived from interviews on the way in which microfinance is executed in practice.
